1. Draw a polygon
Set the number of sides you want in the property bar, then drag with the Polygon tool to draw a shape. Hold Ctrl as you drag to keep it symmetrical.
2. Draw perfect or complex stars
Perfect stars are the traditional, classic star shape you're used to seeing. Complex stars have sides that intersect, giving you a more original look once you add a fill.
- Adjust the number of points or sharpen the angles on the property bar
3. Reshape polygons and stars
You can reshape polygons and complex stars with the Shape tool just like any other object. But they behave a little differently: Moving one node moves the matching node on the opposite side too. If you want to edit each node on its own, convert the shape to curves first.
Perfect stars are stricter. You won't be able to add or remove nodes until you convert the whole star to curves.
4. Draw a spiral
Click the Spiral tool and set how many revolutions you want on the property bar before you draw.
Symmetrical spirals wind outward evenly, while logarithmic spirals get wider with every turn. If you choose logarithmic, use the expansion slider to control how dramatic that widening is.
5. Save your favorite settings
Under Tools > Options > Tools > Spiral, you can adjust your preferred settings so every new spiral starts exactly how you like it.
